Bridging Two Revolutions Through Words and Ideals

Bastille Day 2025:

A Tale of Two Declarations

📍 Embarcadero Plaza Market & Stuart Street, SF

🗓 July 12, 2025

🔗 Full program & schedule

This summer, Culture Without Border is proud to take part in San Francisco’s Bastille Day celebrations with an event that shines a light on the philosophical and political roots shared by two nations — France and the United States.

As music fills Embarcadero Plaza Market and the tricolor flutters above the crowd, visitors will be invited for a moment of historical reflection. Through a dynamic 30-minute talk, our president will explore the deep connection between two of the most influential political texts of the modern era:

The United States Constitution (1776),

forged in the wake of American independence

The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (1789),

a cornerstone of the French Revolution

Though born in different contexts, these documents were both shaped by the ideals of the Enlightenment and by a growing demand for liberty, justice, and human dignity. The talk will walk attendees through the historical backdrop of each revolution and the ways in which their language reveal the spirit of their time.

What do these texts say about who "we" are? How do they define freedom, justice, and the role of the state? These are some of the questions we’ll explore together: not as a lecture, but as an invitation to think and celebrate the intellectual heritage that unites our two nations.

This event also echoes Culture Without Border’s ongoing commitment to promoting dialogue, education, and cultural exchange. From our support of the Hermione voyage to Bastille Day, we continue to create spaces where history, art, and citizenship meet.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a curious visitor: come join us and be part of the conversation !

Because democracy is not just a past to commemorate: it's a living ideal to nurture.
