The evening of May 4th was nothing short of magical at the Berkeley Yacht Club.
The evening of May 4th was nothing short of magical at the Berkeley Yacht Club, where Culture Without Borders hosted a memorable art auction in support of the historic Hermione frigate. Against the backdrop of a breathtaking sunset over the bay, guests gathered to celebrate art, history, and international friendship.
The event began with a captivating presentation by Véronique Vassout, who traced the fascinating journey of the Hermione – a symbol of Franco-American unity and freedom. Vassout delved into the rich history of the ship, from its maiden voyage to its modern-day significance as a cultural icon.
Following the presentation, the audience was taken aboard the replica of the frigate through the eyes of Victor Weber, who shared his firsthand experience of crossing the Atlantic aboard the Hermione. Weber’s vivid account brought to life the challenges, camaraderie, and profound connections formed during the journey.
The centerpiece of the evening was the auction of a striking painting of the Hermione by Franco-Swiss artist Sebastien Pridmore. Crafted using natural pigments, the artwork encapsulates the spirit of the ship and the ongoing restoration efforts.
Thomas Celerier and Lisa Brown, co-hosts and masters of ceremonies, led an impassioned call for donations to support the restoration project. Their words resonated with the crowd, reminding all present of the ship’s enduring legacy as a symbol of hope and unity.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, guests mingled and exchanged stories over a delightful reception, savoring the ambiance of the yacht club and the warmth of the community. The evening concluded with a shared sense of purpose – to keep the spirit of the Hermione alive for future generations.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in this effort and to all those who contributed to the cause. To learn more about Sebastien Pridmore and his work, visit www.spridmore.ch.
